ECMA GMP ReportAs the representative body for the European folding carton industry, the European Carton Makers Association developed the ‘ECMA Food Safety Good Manufacturing Practice Guide’.

The 
ECMA Food Safety GMP Guide guidance document is a management tool for the minimization of migration, organoleptic changes and contamination related to cartonboard packaging. It also gives guidance on compliance with the Good Manufacturing Regulation EC 2023/2006.


The ECMA Food Safety GMP Guide is relevant to all companies that manufacture and use cartons intended to come into contact with food.

ECMA Food SealECMA compliance seal
In accordance with the principles as laid down in this Guide, companies may issue a self-declared compliance statement for the manufacturing of food cartons. 

Self-declaration
The self-declaration form can be downloaded here. The self-declaration should be completed and returned to the ECMA secretariat including copies of valid certificates (ISO, BRC). The self-declared compliant companies will be listed on the ECMA website and are allowed to use the ECMA compliance seal. 

Checklist
Members of ECMA are being supported by implementing the ECMA Food Safety GMP Guide. The Technical Committee has developed a GMP Checklist. This document is only available to members of ECMA and can be downloaded here (please first log in to get access to the member only part of the ECMA website).

Self-declared compliant ECMA members 
The list with self-declared compliant ECMA members can be consulted here. For direct members of ECMA participation in the ECMA GMP is free of charge, indirect members (affiliated through one of ECMA's national associations) pay a yearly fee of € 200.
