ECMA, the European Carton Manufacturers Association, is launching a unique, on-line benchmarking tool for its members. The tool was developed on the initiative of the ECMA SME Forum, the member platform bringing together business leaders of independent, medium sized carton manufacturers, and is commissioned to the German consortium GC Graphic Consult/on.valco. GC Graphic Consult (see also www.gc-online.de) is a business consultant specialized in the printing and packaging industry. On.valco (www.onvalco.de) is a provider of on-line benchmarking solutions for associations and business consortia.
The ECMA benchmarking tool offers carton executives (CEO's, COO's, CFO's) the possibility to benchmark more than 70 Key Performance Indicators (financial, balance sheet and operational) specific to the folding carton sector, against an international panel carton makers, by using a secure, on-line benchmarking system.
On behalf of the ECMA, Secretary-General Jules Lejeune comments: “As the European trade association for the folding carton industry, it is one of our core tasks to encourage best practice and continuous improvements throughout the industry. In today’s uncertain economic climate, the ECMA on-line benchmarking tool can help our members to assess their own performance against the relevant industry average and identify the areas for improvement inside their own company.”
The tool has a track record of more than 5 years now and has been developed, tried, tested and improved together with 15 well managed carton manufacturing companies from countries like Germany, Ireland, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, Israel and Turkey. It not only offers users of the system the possibility to obtain dedicated comparisons and aggregated reports, it also allows them to customize these comparisons, for instance by testing hypotheses, using a set of relevant industry averages. New in the system as of 2012 will be the facility to cluster data by market segment.
The ECMA Online Benchmarking facility (a ‘light version’ of the system developed by the ECMA SME Forum) is available to direct members of ECMA as well as members of national carton associations affiliated with ECMA. For more information see also www.ECMA.org.
